JOB SUMMARY

Works with Histology Technical Specialist as a resource for advanced technical knowledge. Responsible for the performance of repetitive high volume tests in a modern anatomic pathology lab; identify direct causes of problems (technical or instrumental) and make the corrections using present guidelines; monitor quality control procedures within predetermined parameters. Performs immunocytochemical stains on cytologic and histologic specimens and evaluates quality and adequacy of each test. Acts as a resource in the department to help solve quality and technical problems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Successful completion of an associate degree in Histotechnology from an accredited college or completion of a certificate program approved by NCCLS or proper credentialing prior to 2005.

Experience: N/A

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Within six (6) months of hire, ASCP certification as Histo-Technologist.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of various paraffin Microtomes and Cryostats and how they operate; various tissue types and the processing schedules for various procedures; procedures to process tissues using both automated and manual methods of equipment; procedures for preparation of microscopic slides of all embedded tissue; procedures for special stains; ability to communicate effectively with other Hospital personnel; exercise professional discretion with patient information rigid accuracy in the identification of specimens; skilled at maintaining and troubleshooting equipment; establish and maintain good working relationships with other people; organize work and meet deadlines; ability to maintain records and inventories.

READING- Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

WRITING- Intermediate: Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures.

SPEAKING- Basic: Ability to speak simple sentences.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS- Basic Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10''s and 100''s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY- Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
